Harold Whitlock

Hector Harold Whitlock (1903-1985) was a British race walker who won a gold medal in the 50 km Race Walking at the 1936 Olympic Games.
Whitlock won his first national title in 1933.
In 1935, he broke Race Walking World Record of 30 miles (4h 29m 31s).
In the same year, he walked between London and Brighton in under eight hours (7h 53m 50s). His course record was not beaten until 1956 when Don Thompson lowered the mark to 7h 45m 32s.
In 1936 Olympic Games, Harold Whitlock won the gold medal in the 50 km of Race Walking.
In 1938 European Championships, Whitlock also won the gold medal in the 50 km of Race Walking.
After this, Whitlock continued as a coach and judge. Notably, he coached Don Thompson, who won gold in the 50 km of Race Walking at the 1960 Olympic Games.
