Émile Anthoine (1882-1969) was a French race walker.
He won French Championships (1.500-meter run, shot put, long jump, half mile run).
He also broke several National Records of France (10.000-meter run, 3.000-meter run, 800-meter run).
In 1913, he broke the 20 km Race Walking World Record.
In 1925, Émile Anthoine founded the French Federation of Race Walking (since 1929 French Union of Race Walking).
In 1926, Anthoine also founded the International Walking Federation and the Paris-Strasbourg race (since 1980 Paris-Colmar). Today, Paris-Colmar is an annual Multiday Race Walking competition. All races in the history of the event have been between Paris and the Alsace region bordering Germany.
In 1965, the French Union of Race Walking returned to the French Athletics Federation.
Émile Anthoine died on December 14, 1969, in Colombes. He is buried in the Batignolles cemetery, close to where he was born.
A sports center with a track and a swimming pool, on the Champ de Mars, in the Eiffel Tower district in Paris, bears hisname.
