Hartwig Gauder passed away on 22 April 2020 from a heart attack. Gauder (1954) was a West German race walker who won the 50 km Race Walking at the 1980 Olympic Games. In 1981 European Indoor Championships, he won the gold medal in the 5 km of Race Walking. In 1986 European Championships, he won the gold medal in the 50 km of Race Walking. In 1987 World Championships, he also won the gold medal in the 50 km of Race Walking. In 1988 Olympic Games, he won the bronze medal in the 50 km of Race Walking. In 1990 European Championships and 1991 World Championships, Hartwig Gauder also won the bronze medal in the 50 km of Race Walking. In 1996, Gauder started suffering from a virus infection of his heart. After living with an artificial heart for several months, he received a heart transplant. Hartwig Gauder died while undergoing dialysis on 22 April 2020, aged 65. The cause of death was a heart attack complicated by kidney failure. Comments are closed.
