Shaul Paul Ladany (1936) is an Israeli race walker.
In 1963, he won the first of his 28 Israeli national titles. Ladany was a gold medallist at the '72 World Championships in the 100 km event. Shaul Ladany broke the 50 miles Race Walking World Record in 1972. Ladany survived the Bergen-Belsen concentration camp in 1944, when he was eight years old. In 1972, he also survived the Munich Massacre. In 1997, his autobiography was published in Hebrew, entitled The Walk to the Olympics. In 1926, he walked 3.353 km around Spain in 84 days. He broke the Around Spain World Record and Around Iberian Peninsula World Record. In 1930, Manuel Lora walked 1.600 km from Paris to Valencia in 21 days. He broke the Across France-Spain World Record. In 1931, Manuel Lora brought the Spanish republican flag to the tomb of republican politician and writer Vicente Blasco Ibáñez, exiled and deceased in France. In the Spanish Civil War, he fought in the Spanish Republican Army against Nationalist faction. Finished the Spanish Civil War, Manuel Lora was taken prisoner by Franco's dictatorship for years. In the 1970s, Peter Frenkel represented East Germany. In 1972 Olympic Games, he won the gold medal in the 20 km Race Walking. He used a decompression chamber belonging to the state airline Interflug in training for the 1972 Olympics, so as to simulate the effects of altitude training. In 1976 Olympic Games, he won the bronze medal in the 20 km Race Walking. Peter Frenkel served in the East German Army while training, rising to the rank of Major. After finishing his racing career, Frenkel became a well-known photographer in East Germany. In 2022, the 50th birthday of his gold medal at the 1972 Olympic Games is commemorated. This change was very well received by the walkers. In 2019, WR-NW also created the magazine Walking News. In 2022, WR-NW founded WR-NW Books. Abdon Pamich (1933) was an Italian race walker.
In 1960, Pamich broke Race Walking World Record of 50 km (4h 03m 02s). In 1962 and 1966 European Championships, Pamich won the gold medal in the 50 km of Race Walking. In 1964 Olympic Games, Pamich also won the gold medal in the 50 km of Race Walking. In 2022, the 60th birthday of his gold medal at the 1962 European Championships is commemorated. Bernhard "Bernd" Kannenberg (1942-2021) was a West German race walker who won the 50 km Race Walking at the 1972 Olympic Games.
During his career, he set several Race Walking world records and won six outdoor and four indoor West German titles. In 1972, he broke 50 km Race Walking World Record (3h 52m 45s). Kannenberg was a professional soldier and trained at the sports school of the German Bundeswehr at Warendorf. After retiring from competitions, he coached the German Race Walking team. In 2022, the 50th birthday of his gold medal at the 1972 Olympic Games is commemorated. |
