In 1976 Olympic Games, he won the bronze medal in the 20 km Race Walking. Peter Frenkel served in the East German Army while training, rising to the rank of Major. After finishing his racing career, Frenkel became a well-known photographer in East Germany. In 2022, the 50th birthday of his gold medal at the 1972 Olympic Games is commemorated. Between 2008 and 2018, it was the first Nordic Walking institution of the world. In 2019, WR-NW changed its name to the current one and incorporated other sports (Race Walking, Speed Walking). This change was very well received by the walkers. In 2019, WR-NW also created the magazine Walking News. In 2022, WR-NW founded WR-NW Books. Abdon Pamich (1933) was an Italian race walker.
In 1960, Pamich broke Race Walking World Record of 50 km (4h 03m 02s). In 1962 and 1966 European Championships, Pamich won the gold medal in the 50 km of Race Walking. He broke the Across Aquitania-Galicia World Record and Across French Basque Country-Galicia World Record. In 1992, he also walked from Land's End to John o' Groats (Great Britain). In 1994, he walked 100 miles in Schiedam, Netherlands (20 hours and 14 minutes). He was the first Spanish ‘Continental Centurion’. In 2004, he walked 352 km around Mallorca Island in 3 days, 7 hours and 55 minutes. He broke the Around Mallorca Island World Record. In 2009, he won the 6 Jours d’Antibes. In 2012 and 2013, he also won the 6 Jours de France. In 2012, he walked on treadmill during 172,11 km in 24 hours. He broke Treadmill Walking World Record of 24 hours. Volodymyr Holubnychy passed away on 16th August, aged 85. Volodymyr Stepanovych Holubnychy (1936-2021) was a Ukrainian race walker, who competed for the Soviet Union. He dominated the 20 km Race Walking in the 1960s and 1970s. In 1955, Holubnychy broke Race Walking World Record of 20 km (1h 30m 36s). In 1959, he broke Race Walking World Record of 20 km (1h 27m 04s). In 1960 Olympic Games, he won the gold medal in the 20 km of Race Walking. In 1968 Olympic Games, he also won the gold medal in the 20 km of Race Walking. In 1974 European Championships, he won the gold medal in the 20 km of Race Walking. Aidan de Brune (England, 1874-Australia, 1946) was a walker and the first one to walk around Australia. De Brune was born Herbert Charles Cull in London, England and started his professional life as a printer. He married Ethel Elizabeth Crofts in 1907 and his son, Lionel, was born in 1909. In 1910, de Brune went to Australia, arriving in Fremantle, Western Australia on 23 May 1910. His wife and child followed him and arrived in Albany, Western Australia on 26 November 1910. In 1912, de Brune's wife and son returned to England. He remained in Australia for the rest of his life. Since 1920 to 1921, he walked across Australia (Fremantle-Sydney) in 90 days. He broke the Across Australia World Record, Across South Australia-New South Wales World Record, Across South Australia-Victoria World Record, Across Victoria-New South Wales World Record, Across Western Australia-South Australia World Record, Across Western Australia-Victoria World Record, Across Western Australia-New South Wales World Record, etc. Since 1921 to 1924, he walked 16.190 km around Australia (Sydney-Sydney) in 897 days. He broke the Around Australia World Record. Aidan de Brune was also a journalist and author.
